The Bear: Why Did Mikey Hide The Money?
Michael Mikey Berzatto hid the money in cans to protect it from being taxed. Mikey did not hide it because of his reckless spending as many thought.
The Bear is a comedy-drama TV show created by Christopher Storer that debuted on Hulu on 23 June 2022.
It has been well received by critics, who have praised the show's direction and the performances of its cast. In July 2022, the show was renewed for a second season, which premiered on 22 June 2023 and features 10 episodes.
The show was nominated for Best Comedy Series at both the Critics' Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards for its first season.
The Bear's episodes offer subtle hints that gradually unravel a significant and touching mystery. The show follows a young chef Carmen who returns to Chicago to manage his family's Italian beef sandwich shop after his older brother Mikey's suicide left behind debts, a poorly equipped kitchen, and a difficult staff.
The Bear Why Did Mikey Hide The Money
Michael Mikey hid the money because he was probably told to avoid putting it in the bank due to tax reasons. Mikey felt like organizing the tomato cans was a concrete step towards progress.
In Season 1, Jimmy mentioned that he had loaned Mikey $300,000, but it had gone missing. Mikey had kept it hidden and labeled it as "KBL" in his records.
In Season 2, viewers learn that the money Mikey hid in the canned tomatoes was actually Jimmy's.
Carmy and his friends wanted to convince Jimmy to invest the money in their new restaurant, The Bear, along with some extra cash. They sit down with Jimmy to discuss the investment opportunity.
Carmy asks Jimmy about the meaning of "KBL." Jimmy replies, "Kalinowski, me. Berzatto, you. Layne, Lee." Carmy asks who Lee is, the third person involved in the KBL mystery. Nat reveals that it's "Uncle Lee Layne." However, Carmy points out that he's not their uncle. Nat quickly retorts that Richie isn't Carmy's cousin either.
We eventually find out who Lee is, but revealing it now would be too much of a spoiler. In any case, the mystery of KBL had also been solved.
How Did The Money Get In The Cans
On the Bear, how did the money get in the cans is one of the most pressing questions for everyone. Each person in the restaurant was surprised when they discovered it.
Carmy and his team at the Beef opened the cans and collected the money, but viewers were left in the dark about its origin.
In the first episode of Season 2, viewers finally learn how Mike's parting gift was created. Carmy goes down to the restaurant's basement to talk to his cousin Richie and sees the canning equipment that Mike must have used to open the tomatoes and hide the money inside.
It's probable that Michael was advised not to deposit the money in a bank for many tax-related reasons. In his confused state, the act of processing the tomato cans gave him the impression that he was beginning to create something tangible, and it felt like a genuine course of action for him. A deposit box appeared too safe and predictable to him.
As the season advances, the mystery surrounding the tomato cans has been resolved, enabling fans to focus on more significant plotlines as Season 2 develops.

In the majority of the first season, Carmy and the rest of the characters struggle with coming to terms with Michael's suicide. In the final episode, Carmy finally addresses his feelings about his brother's death instead of suppressing them with his work.
Carmy confesses that Michael was his closest friend, and they were inseparable in their youth. Nevertheless, Carmy later realized that he knew nothing about his brother and never saw the agony and hardship behind Michael's cheerful demeanor. Carmy grieves the fact that his brother left him without a farewell.
