Fox was born on 16 May 1986 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. However, the actress's parents, Gloria Darlene Tonachio and Franklin Thomas Fox, raised her in Rockwood, Tennessee.

The 36-year-old was born to American parents. Nonetheless, the actress has native American ancestry since her great-great-grandmother Mary Powhatan was believed to be of the Powhatan Native American tribe. The Powhatan people are the indigenous Algonquian people that lived in eastern Virginia. 

The Tennessee-born started her career as a model at the young age of 13 and went on to win the American Modelling and Talent Convention in 1999, held in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

The young model made her debut with the movie Holiday in the Sun in 2001. Fox appeared in the role of Brianna in the comedy-drama directed by Steve Purcell.
